Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. She was appointed chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell travelled with Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss matters including and the Iran Contra scandal.
